Electronic copies of almost all my papers are available on my publications web site as either gzipped PostScript or PDF files. The following icons always indicate links to the corresponding format. Please let me know if you have trouble displaying or printing any of these files.

- This icon is a link to a gzipped PostScript file. If your browser does not automatically display these files, you may need the following software:
- UNIX (including Linux):
- gzip/gunzip to decompress .gz files
- gv (recommended) or ghostview to display PostScript
- Macintosh:
- MacGzip or Stuffit Expander to decompress .gz files
- MacGhostview (recommended) or MacGS to display PostScript
- xxxCruncher to get around ignorance of the HTTP header Content-encoding: x-gzip. Grumble.
- Windows: GSView
- This icon is a link to a PDF file. If your browser does not automatically display these files, you may need Adobe's free Acrobat Reader or a recent version of Ghostview.
Most of these PDF files use bitmapped fonts, which for some reason Acrobat can't display well, even though Ghostview has no problems. Most of these files were translated from PostScript using ps2pdf, which scrambles fonts, making text searches impossible. (On the other hand, unlike Acrobat Distiller, ps2pdf is free!) If you want to read a paper on-screen, you're much better off downloading the PostScript version!
I also include pointers to "official" electronic versions of several papers on their publishers' web sites. (See the copyright notice.) These are almost always PDF files. Some form of payment or subscription is usually required to access these files. Many of these files--especially in ACM's Digital Library--are low-resolution scans of hardcopy papers; as a result, these files are very large and of low quality. In particular, crucial features like shading and thin or dotted lines may be missing from some figures. Caveat emptor!
